It is time once again for Oaklands Annual Membership Meeting. Join us for an open house of the mansion dressed for mourning and experience the customs and traditions. Tales, superstitions and customs of Victorian Mourning will be explored. There is no cost for members to attend. If you are not a member, please come and join! A membership registration table will be located on the front porch of the mansion.
The Board of Trustees invite all members to join us for a reception with light hors d’oeuvres in the Outdoor Classroom behind the Mansion on Monday evening, October 22, at 5:30. We will enjoy a meet and greet with our members and trustees and conduct a short business meeting. Guests are then welcome to visit with Oaklands staff in the mansion and explore some of the Victorian mourning customs and exhibit artifacts.
During this event, we will be accepting donations toward the restoration of the mirror in the Front Parlor, which is in need of repair. This mirror dates 1850’s-1870’s and was donated by a Darrow family descendant. Oral history from the family stated that this mirror hung at Oak Manor. The Darrow family lived in Oaklands from 1890 to 1912 and were the second family to live here. Many of the family furnishings from the Maney family stayed at Oaklands and were purchased by the Darrow’s when they moved in. This stunning piece of our collection is now on our list of items that is in need of restoration and a focus of our fundraising needs.
Reservations can be made by email to info@oaklandsmansion.org or by calling 615-893-0022.
