We are so excited to be in the final stage of planning our 9th annual “Days of Washing, Churning, and Learning!” Visitors will experience the chores of the mid-1800’s through period crafts, demonstrations, games and hands-on activities as well as visit the Historic House Museum. This one of a kind hands-on education field day is slated for May 8 & 9, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on the beautiful grounds of Oaklands Mansion located at 900 North Maney Avenue in Murfreesboro, TN.
This event will focus on chores of the mid-1800’s through hands-on activities for students and adults alike such as clothes washing, butter churning, quill writing, and rug beating. Artisans will be on the grounds to share their talents. Other activities scheduled for the event are: scavenger hunt of the exterior of the house, kneading dough and limited house tours. Crafts and games for the children such as: sack races, hoops-n-sticks, graces and 1860’s dress up will be available.
It gives us great pleasure to share the house museum and grounds with our community and surrounding counties. There are so many new members of our community that have not experienced our rich civil war history and we want to share it with you! Teachers and parents can look forward to this event again in fall 2014. Reservations are already being accepted for school groups and home school families.
Admission is $5.00 for person and free for teachers and parents with paid child admission. Complimentary parking is provided with check-in at the Roberts Street Pavilion. This event is open to the public. For information, please contact me, Mary Beth Nevills at 615-893-0022 or emailmb@oaklandsmansion.org.
